DWIGHT – Norma Jean Brooks, 90, of Dwight, passed away at 11:37 pm on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Dwight United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Ebersohl officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hager Memorial Home in Dwight. Burial will follow services at McDowell Cemetery in Rural Dwight. Memorial contributions in Norma’s name may be made to Dwight United Methodist Church or Prairie Creek Library.
Norma was born June 24, 1927 in Dwight, a daughter of Lester M. and Grace A. (Lower) Beiswanger. She married Robert E. Brooks on June 14, 1978 in Dwight. He passed away on July 17, 2014.
She is survived by a stepson: Jeffery (Sheryl) Brooks of Reddick; stepdaughter: Beverly (Greg) Leutloff of Manteno; a sister-in-law: Rosemary Brooks; five step grandchildren; and three great step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister.
Norma graduated from Dwight High School. She went on to work in the insurance business for several people before becoming partner in Beiswanger-Norgaard Insurance Company for several years. She then worked for First National Bank of Dwight in 1973 until 1986 when she went to part-time status before retiring in 1998.
She was the Dwight Public Schools treasurer for 27 years and treasurer of Dwight Public Library. Norma was a member of the Dwight United Methodist where she served in the choir and as organist. She also was a member of Dwight Country Club.
