SPRINGFIELD – It’s time to get ready for winter weather.
While Illinois has experienced some pretty mild winters in recent years, Illinois Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Patti Thompson said each year there is at least one storm that hits the state.
“We’ve actually had some very bad winter weather in the month of November, for example the ice storm in 2006 that started in late November,” Thompson said. “So it’s not too early for people to start thinking about how they will handle a situation like that as it happens.”
Thompson said you should make sure you have an emergency kit in your car with blankets, a flashlight, water, food, an ice scraper and jumper cables. You should also have a kit at home with enough supplies to last your family three days.
