WASHINGTON – Democrats say their election victories in New Jersey, Virginia and elsewhere on Tuesday served as a referendum on President Donald Trump.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin it’s too early to tell if the results are the sign of a trend.

“It could be, but time will tell,” Davis said. “I’ve been told since I got here I was never going to win again.”

Democratic candidates have been lining up to challenge the three-term congressman for a seat next year and the national party is expected to support the nominee for what the Democrats consider to be a vulnerable Republican seat.

Davis suggested the Virginia Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam’s decisive victory over Republican rival, Ed Gillespie, simply follows historical trends.

“Every single time we’ve seen in recent history in my adult lifetime… we’ve seen the party in power in the White House be the opposite party that wins the governorship in Virginia,” Davis said.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
