Redbird men’s basketball suffers against Nevada

RENO, Nev. – Illinois State put three players in double-figure scoring, led by Phil Fayne’s 15 points; however, the Nevada Wolf Pack – who are two spots away from climbing into the Top 25 – got a game-high 21 points from Caleb Martin in a 98-68 Nevada win.

How It Happened

Illinois State came out strong in the game, making its first three shots, jumping ahead 9-0 through a minute and a half of game play. The Redbirds kept their lead through the first six and a half minutes, before the Nevada squad ran off an 8-0 run to take a five-point, 22-17 lead – one they would not give up for the remainder of the game. The Redbirds held close, and cut the deficit to three with 6:31 to play on a three-point play by Fayne; however, an 11-0 Wolf Pack run over the next five minutes pushed Nevada’s lead to 14, and the team took a 15-point, 51-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Redbirds got back to within 12 on two separate occasions in the second half, but could not get back within single digits, as the visitors fell 98-68 to Nevada.

What’s Next
The Redbirds return home to Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena on Saturday, December 2 when the team hosts the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a 3 p.m. tip-off. The two teams met earlier this season in an 84-68 Illinois State win in Conway, South Carolina.
