SPRINGFIELD – There were 10 traffic deaths on Illinois highways over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Illinois State Police troopers handled more than 9,600 incidents during the Nov. 22-26 travel period, including 10 fatal crashes. ISP Master Sergeant Mike Link said that’s one less fatality than last year.

“It’s not an ideal travel period by any means, Link said. “We were pretty busy this year. wrote numerous speeding tickets, distracted driving citations and we were out and about assisting motorists dealing with crashes.”

Link said state police wrote more than 3,400 speeding citations during the holiday weekend.

“That number is way too high,” Link said.

State troopers also made 89 drunk-driving arrests and wrote 440 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt.

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
