SPRINGFIELD – Illinois is getting blasted right now with frigid temperatures, and the outlook is for winter to remain on the cold side.

State Climatologist Jim Angel said that a weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean, La Nina, is going to influence how many layers you’re going to be wearing.

“For January, climate conditions are favorable for colder than normal temperatures across Illinois and the Great Lakes region,” Angel said. “Meanwhile, there are no indications that January will be either wetter or drier than normal in Illinois. However the Ohio River valley is expected to be wetter than normal in January, and that could spill into far southeastern Illinois.”

The current blast of arctic air is about the coldest stretch most of the state has seen since early 2014.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
