BLOOMINGTON – Brady Rose tied his career-high 35 points, as the Illinois Wesleyan Titans (11-3) surged past Elmhurst (9-4) 87-75, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game at Shirk Center.
After ringing in the new year with a win over No. 2 Augustana, the Titans momentum continued as the Titans established an early 29-23 lead with 4:33 left in the first half. The Titans surge continued with taking a 38-35 lead at half backed behind Colin Bonnett and Brady Rose who combined for 58 of the teams 87 points.
The second half turned into a back-and-fourth battle with 14 lead changes, as Elmhurst took an early 57-56 lead with 11:40 left in the second half. IWU bounced back with a 19-4 scoring run to secure the victory over Elmhurst.
The Titans’ Jaylen Beasley scored 10 points and added two blocks in the victory.
The Titans will travel to Chicago to take on North Park University next Saturday at 7 p.m. WJBC.com will have the call with pregame starting at 6:50 p.m.
Mia Smith captures 200th CCIW victory
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s basketball team (12-2), not only sailed to their 10th-straight victory with a 87-62 win over Elmhurst (7-7), the team celebrated coach Mia Smith’s 200th CCIW victory.
IWU opened the first half breezing past the Blue Jays leading 28-18 at the half, backed behind freshman Raven Hughes 15 points to lead the Titans.
The second half was no match for the Titans, as senior Rebekah Ehresman and junior Ashley Schneider each added 11 points.
The Titans’s will continue CCIW play next Saturday in Chicago against North Park at 5 p.m.
