George Bohm

George W. Bohm, 75, of Pontiac IL died Sunday January 7, 2018 at 2:54 a.m. at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oaklawn, IL.

According to George’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no services. Memorials in George’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, IL is handling the arrangements.

George was born on February 22, 1940 in Pontiac, IL a son of John P. and Marguerite (Dolton) Bohm Sr.  He married Phyllis Barnard on February 1, 1964 in Pontiac, IL.  She survives in Pontiac.  Also surviving is one son: Doug Bohm of Denver CO and one daughter: Paula Lind of Pontiac, IL; three grandsons: Jacob (Emily Wertz) Lind, Jeremy Lind and Justin Lind; one brother: Rob (Darlene) Bohm of Cornell, IL; one brother-in-law: William Malone of Kempton, IL; one sister-in-law: Judy Bohm of Cornell, IL. George was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Donald, John Jr. and Ervin Bohm; three sisters: Deloris Bohm, Raelene Malone and Peggy Lee.

George was educated in Pontiac schools and was a laborer retiring from Vulcan materials in Pontiac after 25 years.  He was a member of Laborers Local #996 for over 45 years.

Dorothy JohnsonDorothy Johnson

Dorothy Rose Power Johnson, a longtime resident of Pontiac, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2018.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, with her daughter Rev. Veronica Pritchard officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in rural Pontiac.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Delta Grace, P.O. Box 218, Sunflower, MS 38778 (www.deltagrace.org) or The Chad Johnson Memorial Food Pantry c/o Saunemin United Methodist Church 90 North St, Saunemin, IL 61769.

Her laughter and smile brought much joy to so many others. She enjoyed life, family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her 14 children, 42 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren and many others who called her “Grandma.” She was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed dancing, polka music, playing rummy and bingo.

Dorothy was born on Aug. 17, 1922 in Pontiac. She married the late Lester C. Johnson on July 5, 1937.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Power and Rose Lewandowski Power, her husband, Lester C. Johnson, five children, Dewey Johnson, Jacquelyn Johnson, Donald Johnson, Deborah Hornbeck, Pamela Johnson, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and one brother.

She is survived by nine children, Linda Snow, Lester C. Johnson, Jr. (Janet), LaDonna Booth (Dan), Fred Johnson (Lynda), Roberta Stacel (Ian), and Kevin Johnson, all of Pontiac; Greg (Jackie) of Midwest City, Okla.; Patricia Billerbeck (Steven) of Kempton, Ill.; Veronica Pritchard (David) Colia, Miss.; two sisters, Emily Carey of Pontiac and Louise Russell of Carpentersville, Ill.

Marilynn Sancken

Marilynn Maxine Sancken, 86, of Pontiac, IL died Sunday January 7, 2018 at 10:30 p.m. at Tjardes Health Care Center at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac, IL.

Her funeral will be held on Friday January 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Emington Congregational United Church of Christ, Emington, IL with Rev. Grant Speece and Ed Sinclair officiating.  Cremation rites will be accorded after services, and a private family burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Broughton Twp. Cemetery, rural Kempton, IL. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, IL and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marilynn’s name may be made to Emington Congregational Church or Pontiac Public Library.

Marilynn was born on May 22, 1931 in Dana, IL. a daughter of Arthur and Elsie (Spaniol) Lentman. She married J. Marshall Sancken on April 22, 1956 in Streator, IL. He survives in Pontiac, Il. Also surviving are her children: Warren (Carolyn) Sancken of Emington, IL, Charles (Kimberly) Sancken of Emington, IL, Vivian (Steve) Boundy of Dwight, IL, Glen (Christy) Sancken of Geneseo, IL; Grandchildren: Christina Sancken, Jeremy (Charisse) Sancken, Scott (Sarah) Sancken, Kyle (Alicia) Sancken, Stephani (Nathan) Hoegger, Angela (Trent) Becker, Abby and Kara Sancken: great grandchildren: Owynn and Ameliah Sancken, Preston Sancken, Reid and Leah Hoegger, Brooklyn Becker; one sister: Violet Dunn of Holly Michigan.  Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father: Guy Turner and one brother: Orlyn Lentman.

Marilynn was a 1949 graduate of Long Point High School and then in 1955 graduated from the University School of Beauty Culture.  She was a beautician and helped her husband on the farm until their retirement.  She was a member of the Emington Congregational United Church of Christ where she was the organist for 25 years, the Thursday Evening Women’s Club and Carriage Travel Club of Illinois.

Marilynn passed away peacefully after a sudden brief illness. She was a very loving, kind-hearted person. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was well known for her wonderful baking; her apple and strawberry-rhubarb pie were “the best” according to her family and frequently requested.

Marilynn enjoyed photography, reading, flower gardening and traveling.

She cherished her husband and family, and they her. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

During her lifetime, she and Marshall loved to camp and travel. They loved going out west, Texas, Michigan and Canada to name a few. In 1982 for their 25th Wedding Anniversary they enjoyed a European tour. In 1999, they went to Alaska.

The family would like to thank OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, OSF Home Health, Absolute Home Care Plus, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Evenglow Lodge, OSF Hospice, and all the doctors and nurses who cared for Marilynn.
