William “Martin” Travis, 77, of Fairbury, passed away at 8:58 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 25 at the First Baptist Church of Fairbury with Pastor Daryl Evans officiating. Entombment will follow at Fairbury Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 also at the church in Fairbury; and one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Family of Martin Travis. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of services.

Martin was born on September 20, 1940 in rural Fairbury, the son of Lester E. and Hazel Marie Butler Travis. He married Brenda Scurlock on January 6, 1995 in Fairbury. His wife, Brenda survives in Fairbury.

Other survivors include five children; Kimberly (Daniel) Parent of Chenoa, Donna (Mark) Aeschleman of Roanoke, David (Melissa) Travis of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Andy (Kim) Travis of Mahomet, and Mark (Lani) Travis of Fairbury; four step-children, Melissa (Justin) Goembel of Greenville, Tenn., Tara (Ryan Ferguson) Doran of Fulton, Mo., Stacy (Lance) Odum of Carbondale, and Shawn (Heidi Fick) Doran of Flanagan; 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; siblings, Goldie Carlson of Fairbury, Chester (Marilyn) Travis of Marshall, Mich., Martha Beckley of Fairbury, Shirley (Fred) Casper of Pontiac, Marvin Travis of Hudson, and Robert (Diane) Travis of Forrest. He is also survived by his beloved four-legged buddy Enzo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Martin was a 1958 graduate of Fairbury Township High School. He later attended Illinois State Police Academy. He served on the Fairbury Police Departent for 18 years and volunteered for SELCAS for over 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairbury, enjoyed camping, and loved to bird watch. He touched many lives over the years and will be missed deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
