Obituary: Michael Mouser

Michael Mouser, 67, of Carlock, passed away at 2:41 p.m. on Friday, June 29 surrounded by his family at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2018 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 3 at Epiphany Church, Normal with Monsignor Eric Powell officiating. The burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Normal will be limited to extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tri-Valley Education Foundation, 410 E. Washington St., Downs, IL 61736.

Born October 7, 1950 to Melvin and Cecilia Mouser, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Bryant, on July 10, 1971.

He is survived by his wife, son, David (Amie) Mouser of Downs, daughter, Kristin (Brian) Myers of Downs, his sister, Mary (Rudi) Hofmann of Carlock, four adoring grandchildren (Morgan, Brady, Kami, and Jake), and several nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from Normal Community High School in 1968 and earned a B.S. degree from Illinois State University in 1972 in Agricultural Education. He completed a M.S. in Agricultural Education from the University of Illinois.

Mike started his career in education by serving as an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Saybrook Arrowsmith and Normal Community High School. He later managed the Danvers plant for the McLean County Service Company. In 1983 he began farming full time, which he continued to do until his death. In 2004, Mike received the Farmer of the Year award presented by the McLean County Chamber of Commerce.

Mike was activity engaged in several local and state activities including township government, Illinois Committee for Agricultural Education, Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education, and a graduate of the Illinois Agricultural Leadership program. He served as a trustee for the Normal and White Oak Townships. In addition, he proudly served on the McLean County Farm Bureau Board for over 20 years.

Mike was a dedicated fan of Illinois State men’s basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals, and anything his grandkids were involved in. Mike will be deeply missed by his family and will be remembered for his toughness, kindness, compassion, and his modeling of what it means to be a good husband, father, and grandpa.
