NORMAL – Normal CornBelters’ starting pitcher and Illinois State University product Jack Landwehr has been named the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week.
Landwehr had a dominating performance against the River City Rascals last week. He picked up his first professional victory by leading the Belters to a 12-3 victory over the Rascals, all while striking out 12 batters and not walking any. He’s the first CornBelter pitcher to throw double-digit strikeouts without giving up a walk since Cullen Babin threw 10 strikeouts with no walks in 2013. He has made five starts out of six total appearances for the Belters this year. He has also struck out 25 batters while walking only six in over 32 innings pitched. His 2.53 earned run average is the lowest among CornBelters starting pitchers this season.
Landwehr is the first Belter to receive the award since Charlie Gillies, who was named Pitcher of the Week last August.
