U.S., Illinois Chambers backing LaHood

SPRINGFIELD – The U.S. and Illinois Chambers of Commerce are backing State Sen. Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) as the next 18th District Congressman.

The two made the announcement Tuesday in Peoria and Springfield. Illinois Chamber Vice President of Policy Benjamin Brockschmidt said LaHood backs what the Chamber backs.

“State Senator LaHood has been a strong advocate for energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure — all key tenants of Illinois’ economy,” said Brockschmidt.

LaHood said he’ll advocate for the business community if elected to the seat Aaron Schock vacated, and he’ll start by working toward economic growth better than is being seen now.

“Two percent growth should not be acceptable,” said LaHood. “How do we get up to three percent, or four percent growth, in the United States? Really, that comes down to policies in Washington, D.C.”

Policies, LaHood said starting with getting government out of the way. He accuses the Obama administration of massive overreach.

The U.S. Chamber said it likes LaHood’s plan for “fixing Washington” along with trade and infrastructure improvements.
