State’s economy continues to grow

SPRINGFIELD – The state’s economic growth continues.

University of Illinois economics professor Fred Giertz measures personal income, corporate revenue, and consumer spending, and says his Flash index ticket upward in the last month, back to the May level of 104.9. The greater the number is above one hundred, the greater the growth.

“It’s remaining pretty steady at a relative higher rate,” Giertz said. “104 to 105 is not the highest it’s ever been, but having that steady kind of growth is a good sign. It’s a little bit surprising because of (such factors as) the potential for a trade war.”

Giertz says the continued national expansion is the big story, and the surprising one.
