BLOOMINGTON – Greg “GP” Patton, 63, of Bloomington, passed away at 5:27 p.m., Friday, August 10, 2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 18, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Bloomington with Rev. Richard Robinson officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m, Friday. August 17 at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Western Avenue Community Center in Bloomington.

Greg was born August 17, 1954 in Champaign, Illinois, the son of Primas Cornelius and Dizzerene Blyden Patton.
Survivors include his mother, Dizzerene Patton of Decatur; a daughter, Christy Patton, a son, Greg Patton and their mother, Eunice Patton, all of Bloomington; a son, Roderick Jones of Wheaton, MD, a daughter, Kia (Carl) Powell of Rockville, MD; three grandchildren, Carl Powell, III, Kellen Powell and Maliah Payne; two brothers, Cicero Patton and Rory Patton, both of Decatur, and a sister, Janet McGee of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Seron Patton and Denzil Patton.
Greg graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1972 and received a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from ISU. He worked as a Leisure Time Service Specialist at Pontiac Correctional Facility and retired from Dwight Correctional Facility. Following retirement, he worked many years at Western Ave. Community Center and was instrumental in developing the SPY (Survival Program for Youth) Program. He also co-founded the Central Illinois Minority Golf Association.
Greg had a passion for coaching. He coached basketball and baseball at Bloomington High School where he also taught Criminal Justice in the school’s BACC program.
Greg was very involved in his community and loved working with at risk teens. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, weight lifting and fantasy football.
