Congressional campaign challenges pre-existing conditions

SPRINGFIELD – The latest disagreement in the Congressional campaign between incumbent U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) and Democratic challenger Betsy Dirksen Londrigan is over which candidate is better for Illinoisans with pre-existing conditions.

“Congressman Davis did, in fact, vote eleven times to repeal the (Affordable Care Act), with no replacement, that would have eliminated the protections against discrimination for people with pre-existing conditions,”

Londrigan, backed by about two dozen central Illinoisans with pre-existing conditions, said Friday at a Springfield news conference.

“A lot of things are said in politics that just aren’t true,” Davis said after participating in a cancer summit in Springfield. “Once again, my opponent has shown she is willing to bend the truth, rather than come here and talk about how we can work together to fight cancer, rather than just playing politics.”

Davis said most or all of the subjects Londrigan referred to were contained in budget votes.
