JOLIET- The severance package for former Bloomington City Manager David Hales will top $90,000 after he leaves the position he’s held for 11 months as Joliet’s city manager.
The Joliet City Council Tuesday night voted 6-2 for the separation agreement that prohibits city officials and Hales from making derogatory statements about each other.
Following the council vote, Hales said it was a “humbling experience to be part of the Joliet family.”
“I just want to extend my sincere appreciation for the honor and privilege of serving as your city manager, and allowing my wife and I to come to Joliet and be part of the community,” Hales said.
Hales will receive a lump sum payment of $89,584, which is five months of his annual base salary of $215,000.
He’ll also get $5,375 for unused vacation time, and Hales and his wife will receive the city’s health care coverage until mid-January.
Hales spent eight years as Bloomington’s city manager. His salary here was $189,000.
