NORMAL – The race for Normal Town Council has grown after the most recent candidate announcement.
Four candidates will now run in the April 3 election after Normal Library Board member Joel Studebaker announced his running Wednesday via Facebook.
Studebaker released a post on his campaign Facebook page which said, “I moved to Normal a decade ago to attend Illinois State University, and despite multiple attempts, I haven’t been able to leave since. This place keeps pulling me back.”
“But things are changing. I see new development coming to Uptown and North Normal, and it makes me angry. These new developments are not for us; they drain money from our middle class so wealthy investors who don’t live here can make a lot more money,” according to his post.
With only three council seats up for grab, Studebaker joins Normal Planning Commission member Dave Shields and Incumbent council members Kathleen Lorenz and R.C. McBride in the race.
Veteran council member Jeff Fritzen announced he wouldn’t seek re-election in October.
