SPRINGFIELD – Earning what would be her first full term, Comptroller Susana Mendoza talked up Illinois.

“This is where you want to be!” she said in her inaugural speech Monday. “This is it!!”

But the comptroller’s office may not be the place for her to be. She didn’t mention in her speech her candidacy for mayor of Chicago. Rival Toni Preckwinkle was on stage in her capacity as Cook County board president but did not have a speaking part.
