MOLINE, Ill. – The second-leading scorer on the Illinois State women’s basketball team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year.
TeTe Maggett is a junior transfer from Vincennes University and averages 15.8 points per game, scoring in double figures in all but six games. The 5-9 guard from North Chicago, Ill. won the league’s Newcomer of the Week four times and swept Player and Newcomer of the Week once.
Maggett is the fourth Redbird to win the honor after teammate Simone Goods in 2018, Jamie Russell in 2012 and Janae Smith in 2013. Maggett and Goods were named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference squad on Wednesday.
Illinois State (18-11) faces Bradley (20-9) in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, Hoops in the Heartland, on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be live on WJBC-AM 1230 and WJBC.com beginning at 2:20.
