FAIRBURY – Herbert Donald Bellot, 97, Fairbury, died at 8:05 pm Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Good Samaritan Home, Pontiac.
His funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday, May 20, 2019 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth. Burial will be in Forrest Twp. Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion Posts.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fairbury VFW post 9789.
Mr. Bellot was born July 4, 1921 in Odell, IL the son of Herbert B. and Verna C. Bauman Bellot. He married Daisy Waters on September 18, 1947 in Fairbury. She survives.
Their marriage of over 70 years blessed them with 4 children, Betty Hand, Pleasentview, TN, William (Cheryl) Bellot, Chatham, James (Phyllis) Bellot, Forrest, and Mary Frances Gambardella, Cornell, 9 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren and 1 brother, John (Ella) Bellot, Saunemin.
He is preceded in death by 1 brother, 2 sisters, and 2 grandchildren.
Mr. Bellot was a graduate of Odell High School. Donald served our country in the US Army as a Sergeant in WWII from July 13, 1942 to September 25, 1945. He was a member of TEC 4 Company B, EBSR Asian Pacific Theater and the Philippine’s Liberation Theater. He was employed by the Illinois State Police, and later for the Department of Corrections in Pontiac where he worked in the carpentry and maintenance departments.
He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Chatsworth, the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 9789 and American Legion Post 54, and Arrowhead Lodge, all in Fairbury. His hobbies included camping and fishing especially at Rend Lake where they enjoyed returning year after year.
