BLOOMINGTON – A flamingo on Monday was euthanized after a juvenile threw a rock into the habitat.
Miller Park Zoo Superintendent Jay Tetzloff said through an e-mail statement that Miller Park Zoo had no option, but to euthanize the flamingo.
“Unfortunately, staff determined the best course of action given to the animal’s injuries was to euthanize the bird,” added Tetzloff. “This was a truly unfortunate accident, and we are working with the juvenile’s family to move forward.”
The flamingo exhibit opened to the general public in spring of 2016.
