In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Central Illinois as she loved dogs.
Mary was born July 11, 1924 in Normal to Pearl A. and Margaret C. McGraw Peddicord. She married Chuck Schumacher on May 27, 1944 in Shreveport, LA. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are her step-daughter, Denise (Rich) Vander Wall of New Lenox; two granddaughters, Megan and Nicole; a niece, Joyce Pierce of Omaha, NE; cousins, Liz Locke of Normal and Bridget Whitworth.
Mary graduated from Normal Community High School in 1942. In 1959 Mary and Chuck moved to LaGrange, IL and remained there for 25 years. During those years Mary worked at the First National Bank of LaGrange for 20 years. Upon returning to Normal she worked at Rolands in Bloomington and Melange in Normal.
For many years Mary did volunteer work at the McLean County Historical Society, McLean County Humane Society and the Community Cancer Center. She followed in the footsteps of her hubby Chuck who did much volunteer work at nursing homes and upon his death in 2006 she continued on for him, going to all of the nursing homes in town.
Mary loved eating out with her friends and doing puzzle books. She was an avid reader and never missed a Chicago Bulls basketball game.
Her last years at Evergreen were happy years with new friends, but she never forgot the old ones.
