PEORIA – Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s remains have been returned to Peoria after a lengthy legal battle in New York.
Following the rulings in the New York State of Appeals, the Catholic Church had to receive civil permits to make the transfer. The Diocese of Peoria said the beatification process for Sheen has resumed. The El Paso native was ordained as a priest in Peoria in 1919.
People are invited to visit Sheen’s new tomb in the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
