CARLOCK – The Woodford County Coroner confirms a man is dead after two semis collided in a construction zone Wednesday afternoon on I-74 near Carlock.
The crash caused police to shut down the interstate from Mitsubishi Motorway to Goodfield during the peak of the afternoon commute.
State Police Sergeant Tony Halsey told our news partner WMBD-TV that a semi-truck was broken down on eastbound I-74, near the McLean-Woodford County line around 2:30 p.m. A second semi tried to pass, but it hit the broken-down semi and caught fire.
Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman said the man killed was one of the semi drivers. He said the other driver was transported to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal. His condition is not known.
Ruestman and Illinois State Police are investigating.
