BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Hy-Vee store is lending a helping hand to replenish a local food bank.
The store Thursday presented a check for $10,841 to the Midwest Food Bank.
The store raised money over the past year during a companywide campaign called “Feed the Need.” Customers helped by rounding up their purchases to the next dollar – or a desired amount – at the checkout. Hy-Vee then matched customer donations.
The supermarket wanted to help local food banks after it became aware of the ongoing demand for products and supplies, especially during non-holiday times of the year.
The Midwest Food Bank, based in Normal, has eight locations around the U.S., with two others in East Africa and Haiti.
