NORMAL – Illinois State University will name its College of Fine Arts and School of Art for Wonsook Kim.

Kim and her husband, Thomas Clement, will be recognized after a generous donation to the school, according to a press release. The university has not said how much money was donated.

Kim came to ISU in 1972 and earned three degrees. This past year, she was recognized at Founders Day and received an honorary doctorate of arts.

Kim’s work has been featured worldwide, and she was named Artist of the Year by the United Nations in 1995.

The naming ceremony will take place Sept. 12 at the Center for the Performing Arts.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…
