BLOOMINGTON – A school on Bloomington’s west side celebrated being back in session and welcomed a revitalized playground across the street.
Sheridan Elementary held its annual “Back to School Parade” Friday and part of the festivities was a dedication of the revamped O’Neil Park playground, located at 1515 West Chestnut Street.
In November, the project received support from City Council members and the District 87 school board. The district paid $70,000 because kids from Sheridan will use the playground.
“This is a great partnership with District 87 and a great addition for the west side community,” said Bloomington Parks, Rec, and Cultural Arts Director Jay Tetzloff.
Sheridan Principal Jenifer McGowan said the school is grateful for the new space.
“Our current playground is small and we can only allow so many kids on it at one time. This new playground is much larger and can accommodate many different activities,” said McGowan.
The playground features upgraded equipment and new sidewalks.
