SPRINGFIELD– A local Congressman says there’s nothing in the Ukraine transcript to add up to criminal charges – or impeachment.
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville), visiting a Springfield factory Thursday to celebrate Manufacturing Month, said, “That transcript clearly shows the President talked about the Javelin missile systems that were going to Ukraine, and immediately after the president of Ukraine mentioned the Javelin system, (Trump) is being accused of saying, hold up, you have to investigate my political opponent, the next sentence is actually (Trump) asking the president of Ukraine to look at the 2016 election interference, allegedly by Ukraine and Russia and other countries.”
Davis backed up his remarks about there being no case for impeachment by saying he had spoken with fellow members of Congress who are former prosecutors.
Davis also called for a vote on the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement – the successor to NAFTA – but said Democrats are so focused on impeachment they won’t call it.
