NORMAL – Illinois State University is launching a competitive esports program starting next fall.
Under the leadership of campus recreation, the esports program will feature a competitive varsity team, as well as several club teams, according to a news release Monday. ISU will be the first public institution in the state to offer esports at the varsity level.
ISU currently has 12 competitive esports teams that play games such as League of Legends and Overwatch.
To expand the program, plans are underway to transition to a larger space. That area would likely be the activity room in the Bowling and Billiards Center.
