Ameren Illinois plans $32M upgrade to natural gas pipeline in Pekin

PEKIN – Ameren Illinois announced Monday plans to further upgrade natural gas lines in Pekin.

The project is estimated to cost around $32 million to complete 7 miles of transmission pipelines, according to a release by Ameren. Crews will be replacing the existing steel pipeline, which was installed in the 1930s.

Work is set to begin this week, with the new 16-inch steel pipeline scheduled to be in service by the beginning of summer.

“The upgrades are part of our overall statewide plan to upgrade and improve our natural gas system,” said Richard J. Mark, chairman and president, Ameren Illinois. “With these enhancements, Ameren Illinois is taking proactive steps to prepare for the future needs of our natural gas customers. We’re excited to bring these enhancements to our customers in Tazewell County.”
