LaHood, Davis announce over $5.5 million in affordable housing grants for Central Illinois

BLOOMINGTON – Several central Illinois communities have received federal funding that will go towards affordable housing, including the Twin-Cities.

Bloomington, Normal, Peoria and Springfield have been awarded $5,646,922 in Community Development Block Grants, Emergency Solutions Grants, and HOME grants. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to Congressmen Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) and Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville).

Bloomington will receive $559,514 and Normal will get $418,291 in Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants.

The CDBG program provides annual grants to states and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate-income persons.
