BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 74.
Nicacio Gomez-Mecinas, 34, died from multiple blunt force injuries, according to Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. on I-74 near Morton. Illinois State Police said the van that Gomez-Mecinas was driving lost control due to icy road conditions and went head on with a semi truck. Two passengers of the van were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, according to ISP.
The crash remains under investigation by ISP and the coroner’s office.
