JACKSONVILLE – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois says group claims processing work the health insurer does will be outsourced to outside organizations.

Spokesman Michael Deering said 60 employees in the state are losing their jobs.

“Blue Cross Blue Shield is moving to prioritize employing people at our facilities around the state who directly interact with our customers,” Deering said.

Deering added the laid-off employees will receive severance benefits, and transition and outplacement services.

“We value and respect all of our employees so we take these kinds of decisions very seriously and weight in all of the different determining factors.” Deering said. “That’s way it’s take a little time to determine some of these things.”

Deering stressed that customer service reps for the insurer would not be sent overseas to India. He added that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois’ future is bright, touting that it’s increased its workforce over a third over the last five years.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
