Miller Park Zoo announces death of North American River Otter pup

BLOOMINGTON – Miller Park Zoo announced one of the North American River Otter pups has died.

“We are sadden by the loss of one of the pups, the cause of death was head trauma,” Jay Tetzloff Miller Park Zoo Director said. “The other three remaining otters are in good health.”

An autopsy was completed by the University of Illinois Veterinary College and the death was not related to COVID-19.

The pups, a male and a female, were born Feb. 25 at the zoo.

The Zoo remains closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
