SPRINGFIELD– One of the big points which have upset Illinois Republicans is by the wayside — for now.

People opposed to Gov. JB Pritzker’s “stay home” and “stay out of business” orders have been upset since Friday, when he filed an emergency rule allowing local authorities to treat violations as a Class A misdemeanor. Now that lawmakers are back in town, the administration has repealed the rule so it can become a bill.

We agree with the intent when it comes to enforcing the governor’s ‘stay at home’ order,” State Sen. Bill Cunningham (D-Chicago) said. “We have had some disagreements about the exact process, but now we will be able to delve into those things here in the legislature. That’s the way the process is intended to work.”

Pritzker said he never intended to jail anyone, take their license, or close their business.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
