SPRINGFIELD – A Downstate Congressman – and former federal and county prosecutor – says for the most part, law enforcement professionals are good people who do a good job.
“Obviously, what has happened with the (George) Floyd case and a number of other cases is really, really tough to watch and see,” said U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap). “This is not the type of policemen or the activity we want police engaged in.”
And you hopefully enjoyed your stimulus check, because if LaHood gets his way, it might be the last one for a long time. “There is a growing resistance, particularly from me and other Republicans,” he said. “We saw the jobs report last Friday. We thought we were going to lose another 7 million jobs in May; we gained 2.5 million. The $3 trillion (in the stimulus bill) we put on the proverbial federal credit card. We didn’t have a rainy day fund. We’re creating a debt bomb that is going to go off.”
LaHood, whose district includes part or all of Peoria, Bloomington-Normal, Springfield, Jacksonville, and Quincy, participated in a Zoom event through the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University Monday.
