SPRINGFIELD – Despite the rain of this summer, parts of Illinois are starting to show up on the NOAA Drought Monitor.
“It’s not how much, but when it occurs,” said Mark Schleusener, Illinois state statistician for the USDA crop reporting service. “I would say in general, July was quite good, but we are beginning the process to remeasure and reassess the corn and soybean crop conditions and will publish the results on Sept. 11.”
Corn is twelve percent mature. Soybeans are almost finished setting pods. Those crops are in 70 and 72 percent good to excellent, respectively.
