BLOOMINGTON – Congressmen Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) and Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) Tuesday announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority and the Central Illinois Regional Airport over $1.6 million in federal grant funding.
Portions of the funding were authorized in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to provide economic relief in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding will help CIRA design a new general aviation apron and purchase two high speed runway brooms for snow removal, according to the release.
“Bloomington-Normal’s airport plays a critical role in connecting the 18th District with the rest of the country and this funding will provide the necessary resources for the airport to ensure safe and efficient operations for passengers,” said LaHood.
“During this critical time in aviation, we are very appreciative of the support and advocacy of Representatives Darin LaHood and Rodney Davis,” said Jay Allen, Chairman of the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority.
