SPRINGFIELD – Cool and dry were the watchwords for Illinois farmers last week.
Mark Schleusener, state statistician for the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service looks at those conditions: average temperature three degrees below normal, with no measurable rainfall.
Schleusener says corn’s 53 percent mature, soybeans are 44 percent dropping leaves, both have just begun harvest, with good to excellent condition for 71 percent of soybeans and 73 percent of corn.
