BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man believes his youth gives him a fresh perspective as he enters the race to become the city’s next next mayor.
Nick McClintock is 29 and works as a radio technician for the Illinois Farm Bureau. He’s also worked as a news and sportscaster at WJBC in Bloomington, however this is McClintock’s first attempt at running for political office.
McClintock said he’s lived in the Twin-Cities his entire life.
“I feel that gives me a unique perspective both as a life-long resident and a younger individual for what the needs are for this community, both the short-term as well as seeing us into the future,” said McClintock in a video he posted on Facebook.
McClintock said he envisions a community in which “the city roads are fixed, finances stabilized, while ensuring that quality of life remains above and beyond those municipalities both near and far.”
McClintock is seeking the job now held by Tari Renner, who said last week he will not run for a third term.
The other announced candidate is local entrepreneur Mike Straza, who currently serves on the Bloomington Zoning Board of Appeals.
