Neighborhood watch leads to arrest of home burglary suspect in Normal

NORMAL – Neighbors looking out for each other led to the arrest of a suspected burglar who broke into a home in Normal on Sunday.

Normal Police said the neighbor knew the residents of the home were away, saw the burglar, and took pictures of him leaving the house on Broadway Place.

As for the neighborhood watch, “it works,” Assistant Police Chief Eric Klingele told our news partner HOI ABC.

Police arrested Vincent Nelson, 34, on a residential burglary charge which carries a mandatory prison sentence if he’s convicted.

According to Klingele, police found stolen items in Nelson’s backpack. Jewelry, including an IHSA state championship ring, U.S. and foreign currency, video games and consoles were stolen, according to police.

Nelson was still in the McLean County Jail Wednesday night. He has to post a $10,000 cash bond to be released.
