Police: Arrest made in fatal shooting in Lincoln

LINCOLN – Authorities say they have arrested a 67-year-old woman in the alleged shooting death of her husband.

Our news partner HOI ABC reports the incident happened at around 8:47 a.m. Tuesday when Lincoln Police Department units were called to the 1400 block of North Ottawa Street for reports of a shooting.

Authorities then located 77-year-old John Yates with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the LPD.

Logan County Paramedics and the Lincoln Fire Department responded to the shooting and attempted to stabilize the man, but were unsuccessful.

Kathleen Yates, who apparently made the call to police, according the LPD, was arrested for first-degree homicide.

The LPD states a preliminary investigation shows the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute.

The investigation is ongoing by the LPD and the Illinois State Police.
