SPRINGFIELD – HIV, the virus which causes AIDS, is best treated – like many other chronic conditions – as soon as it’s detected. And, according to new University of Illinois research, you can credit Medicaid expansion with reducing the number of undetected cases.

“You may start to have some symptoms (within) five or six years” of contracting HIV, says researcher Bita Fayez Farkhad. “Then, it is too late.”

Farkhad says the increased access to insurance means more people are taking PrEP – pre-exposure prophylaxis – a daily preventive pill.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
