BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington City Council’s contract with City Manager Tim Gleason has been extended nine months, but his annual salary will remain the same at a little more than $197,000.
Gleason’s current contract with the city was supposed to expire July 1, 2024, but the council Monday night voted unanimously to extend the agreement to March 31, 2025, which is the earliest time Gleason is eligible to retire.
In a report to the council, the contract extension was proposed “to provide additional stability to the community, and to reflect the desire of the city manager to continue serving the city until at least his earliest retirement date.”
The council in its most recent job review last fall gave Gleason the highest performance ranking for exceeding expectations.
Later this year, Gleason will choose Bloomington’s next police chief to replace retiring Chief Dan Donath. It will be Gleason’s second search for a chief since becoming city manager in 2018
Gleason previously ran city governments in Decatur and Washington. Gleason also spent 21 years as a Pekin police officer, rising to the rank of lieutenant.
