NORMAL – Illinois State University on Friday celebrated the completion of the renovated Bone Student Center, a project that cost almost $33 million and took years to complete.
The rededication of the university’s main meeting place featured a ribbon cutting outside the Bone.
The building includes updated event and meeting space, student support service offices, and new restaurants including Star Ginger and Timbers Grille.
“For years, it’s been where students purchased their first Redbird spirit wear, and where they pick up their student ID. But now their relationship with the Bone begins earlier at the beautiful new admissions atrium,” said Levester Johnson, ISU’s vice president for student affairs.
The Bone Student Center is named after Robert Bone, ISU’s 9th president.
Bone served as president from 1956 to 1967 when the school was called Illinois State Normal University.
Robert Bone died in 1991.
