McLean County farmers making good progress

BLOOMINGTON – Planting across Illinois is ahead of average, even with some wet weather last week.

According to the USDA crop report, 74 percent of corn has been planted, compared to 61 percent for the five-year average.

Illinois Corn Growers Association executive director Rodney Weinzierl spoke with WJBC’s Marc Strauss.

“We got about two inches of rain fairly consistently around the area last week so it takes a little bit of time for things to dry out,” Weinzierl said. “But a lot of people around here are pretty close to being done, maybe done. So if they can get two or three days in that would make a big difference in them wrapping up.”

The wet weather last week left only about three and a half days suitable for fieldwork.
