SPRINGFIELD – The child tax credit which is part of the American Rescue Plan begins Thursday, July 15.
The monthly total depends on how old your children are and how many you have. The IRS will send you a check or make a direct deposit. Parents will receive $300 for each younger child. The government will count children 17 and under.
“If the family is living in poverty, it may be a question of paying the rent. What are you going to do when that car breaks down?” asked U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) during a visit Thursday to a Springfield grade school. “Many of these parents of these kids living in poverty are working. They are not making enough to get by. They struggle every single month to make ends meet, to pay the utility bills, to do the basics.”
Durbin, who pointed out no Republicans voted for the ARP, said the money will help the families of 330,000 Illinois children.
