NORMAL – As the holidays quickly approach, the Normal Police Department warns those ordering online to keep an eye on their package once it arrives.
Normal Police Department Spokesperson Officer Brad Park said although it’s rare, ‘porch pirates’ or people looking to steal packages off of porches happen in the twin cities.
“Generally doing the porch pirates thing isn’t a very big deal, but obviously during the holiday season, it does come up every now and again.”
Speaking with WJBC’s Todd Wineburner, Officer Park said if a package is out for delivery, make sure to check the delivery time and ask a friend to keep an eye on the package.
“We also tell the community, if you see people that are following around an Amazon, or a FedEx or a UPS truck, or if you see someone going up to your neighbor’s door and that shouldn’t be there, definitely give us a call and we can respond as quickly as possible.”
Officer Park said criminals who steal packages could face charges of theft.
