SPRINGFIELD – State Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) says the word’s on the street – Illinois is soft on crime.
“When the recent bail reform of 2017-18 went into effect,” the former Massac County prosecutor said at a House Republican news conference in Springfield Wednesday, “the individuals who were arrested quickly learned they would not be held for certain things, that they would receive dollars-a-day credit toward their bail. They learned as quickly as the attorneys did how the system would work.”
He has introduced a resolution to repeal last year’s criminal justice bill.
Joining him were State Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna), who said signs around the Quad Cities recruit Illinois cops to Iowa; and State Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Bourbonnais), who brought up the recent shootings – one fatally – of two police officers in Bradley.
