BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington Police Vice Unit probe led to the arrest of a repeat drug offender from McLean County accused of cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking.
During a bond hearing earlier this week, McLean County’s lead drug prosecutor Jeff Horve told the judge Edward Holmes, 50, is one of the county’s “biggest” drug dealers. Holmes faces up to 100 years in prison if found guilty of the most serious trafficking charge.
Authorities said the vice unit arrested Holmes when he returned to the Twin Cities after an out-of-state drug run.
Prosecutors said Holmes was in possession of almost $45,000 worth of cocaine and meth.
He’s charged with two counts each of cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking and four counts of intending to deliver the drugs.
Horve expects Holmes will face more charges after a grand jury reviews the case.
Records indicate Holmes has two prior cocaine delivery convictions, for which he served eight-and-12 year sentences.
Holmes is being held on a $300,000 bond, which means he must come up with $30,000 cash to be released from jail. Holmes must also prove in court that the money came from legitimate sources.
His arraignment is scheduled for February 11.
